Leeds United are in the hunt to sign Freiburg and Germany star Robin Koch, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker turned broadcaster and pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has revealed that reports linking the Whites with the 24-year-old are true.
The Athletic report that director of football Victor Orta has been tracking the centre-back back for months and that he ticks the boxes for the club both on the pitch and on a financial basis.
Leeds are also trying to re-sign Ben White from Brighton after his impressive loan spell last season.
Now Whelan, who still has good contacts at Elland Road and attends every one of the club’s games with BBC Radio Leeds, has confirmed the interest in Koch.
“It’s not whispers, it’s true, they are looking at him,” Whelan told Football Insider.
“It’s something where you’ve got to say can we bring two in, can we bring both in? If not, we’ve got to move in for Koch who obviously has that experience of top-flight level in Germany, played international football already.
“That is the sort of calibre of centre-half we’ve got to be looking at.”
Koch, who made his international debut for Germany back in October 2019, has two caps under his belt to date.
A versatile defender who, like White, has operated as a defensive midfielder on occasion, has also played 82 times in the Bundesliga with Freiburg.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED the club have opened preliminary talks over two striker signings valued at £50million.
