Burnley have reportedly lodged an £8million bid for Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga – and most of the Reds fans on Twitter think the offer is derisory.

The Nottingham Post has reported that Mark Warburton’s men moved fast to ensure that they would not lose hold of their key man to the Clarets, who have recently sold Michael Keane to Everton in a deal worth up to £30million.

It is said that the Lancashire club are just one of a number of teams that are keeping tabs on Assombalonga, who moved to the City Ground in a deal worth £5.5million from Peterborough in 2014.

Since then he has been in top form for Nottingham Forest, even though he has suffered multiple spells on the sidelines because of different injury problems.

Last season saw the ex-Watford ace lead the Reds’ goal scoring charts by firing 14 goals in 32 league games as his side avoided relegation from the Championship by the skin of their teeth.

Middlesbrough and Huddersfield are understood to also be casting their rule over Assombalonga, but Forest fans on social media believe that he is worth much more than Burnley’s opening offer of £8million.

With the club under the ownership of Greek tycoon Evangelos Marinakis, one supporter joked that former owner Fawaz Hasawi “would have bitten their hand off” for that price.
