Evangelos Marinakis is ready to splash the cash for Nottingham Forest in the January transfer window after their fantastic start to the season.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the owner is prepared to spend big on potential incoming deals.

Forest are currently third in the Premier League table after 20 games, level on points with Arsenal while four points separate them from fourth-placed Chelsea.

With less than half of the season yet to play, there is a growing hope amongst supporters that they could secure historic qualification for the Champions League come May.

However, there is also a belief at the City Ground that Nuno Espirito Santo's squad could still be improved to further bolster their chances to end the season strongly.

Marinakis has never been shy to invest in the squad, and tends to be bullish in his attempts to help Forest become the best team they can be.

Brown has now insisted the owner will be tempted to spend big again this month, having splashed around £88million on incoming deals in the summer.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, explained that Forest's spending will need to continue to help them qualify for Europe.

"I'm never quite sure with the owner there," he told Football Insider.

"He's got about three or four clubs and has taken Edu from Arsenal as a part of this wider plan.

"In the past, he's come up with some harebrained schemes and he's very demonstrative about his backing and beliefs for the club.

"So I would never be surprised about what comes from him in the transfer window.

"But, having said that, I think it's become clear he's always willing to back the club and, in his own way, to help them push forward and be the best they can be.

"When you look at their league position at the moment, nobody expected them to be where they are, so I think he will want to spend a bit to strengthen that squad.

"If you add a couple more players in to strengthen positions where maybe they're not sure, it gives them the best chance at qualifying for Europe.

"So don't be surprised to see some big investment in January if he feels he can help the team."
