Nottingham Forest news: Campbell verdict on Djed Spence future after source update - 'I'd be very surprised...'

Kevin Campbell has urged Djed Spence to turn down Tottenham and move permanently to Nottingham Forest this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Forest and Arsenal striker suggested the 21-year-old would favour a return to the City Ground given the “incredible” relationship he has with the club.

Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence helped Nottingham Forest gain promotion during a loan spell in the Midlands.

The right wing-back has two years remaining on his contract at the Riverside Stadium.

Middlesbrough hope to recoup £15million from his sale this summer.

A recruitment source told Football Insider (30 May) that Brentford and Tottenham are racing Forest for the full-back’s signature.

Campbell believes a return to the City Ground would be best for the young defender’s career.

“Look, there is a lot of suitors for Spence,” he told Football Insider.

“He needs to choose a club where he will be first choice. At Forest, he is a starter. Nothing beats playing football every week.

“I think Spence has found a home at Forest under Steve Cooper. I would be very surprised if Forest weren’t at the front of the queue to sign him. They’ve enjoyed an incredible time together.

“Spence is only a young man. He has plenty of time to move to one of the big, big clubs later in his career.

“He needs to make a name for himself in the Premier League. After that, if anybody wants to come in, then you go there and be a star.”
