Nottingham Forest want to sign Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback on a permanent basis in the summer transfer window, according to a report.
The Nottingham Post claims that Aitor Karanka wants a signing blitz that could see up to 10 players move to the City Ground over the coming months and Magpies outcast Colback, 28, is one of his targets after being impressed by the midfielder’s performance in the East Midlands while on loan this year.
Colback, who according to the Newcastle Chronicle earns £40,000-a-week in his deal at the Premier League club, has made 16 appearances for Forest since joining them on loan in January and scored his first goal for the club in the 3-2 loss to Bolton on Sunday.
It is understood that Nottingham Forest also want to sign Costel Pantilimon, Lee Tomlin, Michael Dawson, Max Clark, Jack Marriott and Marcus Maddison in a major summer overhaul.
Football Insider verdict
Colback has been very impressive since he moved to the City Ground and there’s a good chance that Newcastle will look to sell him on a permanent basis in the summer due to his high wages and the fact that he failed to make a single appearance for the club in the first-half of the season. Although the ex-Sunderland midfielder was key for Rafa Benitez in the Championship last term, he was completely frozen out of the first team this term and it was easy to see why he was allowed to join Forest on loan. He has been brilliant in the East Midlands and it would be a no-brainer for Karanka to snap him up. Karanka was not afraid to make changes in January and it looks as though he is set to do it again over the summer. Could Forest seal a play-off spot next season? Judging by the teams who could be coming down from the Premier League, it could be a tough ask, but it’s definitely worth a shot.
In other Nottingham Forest news, this £1million Reds player will surely be on the move in the summer.
