Chris Wood set for key Nottingham Forest role under Oliver Glasner as past comments resurface - view
Chris Wood seems likely to be a key man under Oliver Glasner at Nottingham Forest considering his previous praise of the veteran striker.
Glasner is set to be appointed as Nottingham Forest's new manager after they sacked Vitor Pereira on Wednesday.
The Portuguese boss confirmed in a statement that he had been relieved of his duties, with reports claiming that he was dismissed just minutes before the clause allowing them to do so expired.
Forest were previously linked with appointing Glasner before he joined Crystal Palace, and he is now set to succeed Pereira ahead of next season.
The Austrian manager will have some key decisions to make this summer, but looks set to back New Zealand international Wood as his first-choice striker.
Glasner previously heaped praise on the 34-year-old after he scored against his Palace side back in 2024.
He has been linked with an exit this summer after struggling for fitness last season, but will surely be a key man under the new Reds boss.
Oliver Glasner has already revealed what he thinks of Chris Wood
Wood only scored five goals in 20 appearances last season as he missed large parts of the campaign with knee and hamstring injuries.
He had previously bagged 20 goals in 40 games in 2024-25, and 15 in 35 throughout his first full season at the club.
He still looks to be in decent shape, but rumours have surrounded his future at the City Ground as he turns 35 midway through next season.
Sources had told Football Insider that Pereira was prepared to sell Wood this summer, but now that Glasner is set to arrive, he looks set to remain as a key man.
Glasner knows what Wood is all about as a striker, and has previously made a point of publicly appreciating his abilities.
After his goal against Palace in March 2024, Glasner told reporters: "Chris Wood is a fantastic player in the box. In this situation, we didn’t get enough pressure on the ball."
Igor Jesus could leave Forest instead of Wood
Jesus was tasked with leading Forest's line more often than not last season due to Wood's constant injury woes.
He only managed to score six goals in 37 league matches, but did bag seven times in 13 Europa League games.
Forest will not have any European football to contend with next season, meaning Glasner seems likely to favour a more streamlined squad.
Sources have previously told Football Insider that Jesus could be sold by the Reds this summer, and that seems possible if the new boss does favour Wood going forward.
