Givairo Read remains on Nottingham Forest's radar as they race Roma to land his services this summer.

Oliver Glasner is keen to improve his squad in several areas this summer ahead of his first season in charge at the City Ground.

Forest have only signed free agent Xaver Schlager to improve their first team squad so far, after he left RB Leipzig at the end of last season.

They have been targeting Feyenoord right-back Read over the last few weeks following his impressive performances for the Dutch giants.

He could arrive at the City Ground to provide competition to Ola Aina soon, but the Reds have been told that they must offer around £25.7million to land his services.

Roma are also keen on signing Read, and now look to be in pole position to agree a deal, so Forest must act quickly to get their man.

Dutch journalist explains Nottingham Forest's current pursuit of Givairo Read

20-year-old Read has attracted the attention of some of Europe's biggest clubs since emerging onto the first-team scene at Feyenoord under Robin van Persie.

He registered two goals and three assists in 20 appearances last season, and emerged with standout statistics in several key metrics.

Glasner has identified the Netherlands youth international as his top target for the right wing-back role he is set to introduce at the City Ground.

Dutch ESPN journalist Sinclair Bischop has explained the current landscape of Forest's pursuit of Read alongside Roma.

He has revealed to national outlet 1908 that Forest have made three offers for his services so far, with each one rejected for being too low.

Roma are now considered the most likely contenders to seal his signature, as they move closer to Feyenoord's €30m (£25.7m) price tag, with Forest needing to raise their offer to that figure to progress in talks.

Nottingham Forest 'having second thoughts' about signing Rico Lewis

What has Van Persie said about Read?

A new attack-minded right-sided defender is clearly on Glasner's radar, likely due to Aina's chequered recent injury history.

Read has emerged as their top target after sources revealed to Football Insider that Forest are having second thoughts about signing Man City's Rico Lewis due to his lack of recent regular game time.

Premier League legend Van Persie has heaped praise on the 20-year-old in the last few months and backed him to make a big move, saying: "Everyone knows what I think about Read. We have known each other since our youth days. As a person, I think he is a really great example of how you can always remain yourself, no matter what happens or how well you are performing.

“He is still exactly the same boy as he was three years ago. You see some players change because of status or money, but that is absolutely not the case with Givi. I think that is really great to see. As a player, he is making huge strides and is simply a fantastic player. I certainly think he can make that step up."
