Dan Ndoye: Switzerland media react to Nottingham Forest star’s performance in surprise draw vs Qatar
Dan Ndoye was part of a Switzerland side that suffered a shock 1-1 draw against Qatar on Saturday in the 2026 World Cup.
The Nottingham Forest winger started the match, as a late 94th-minute Boualem Khoukhi equaliser cancelled out Breel Embolo’s penalty to earn the Asian nation their first-ever World Cup point.
The Swiss were wasteful throughout the match, and despite a wealth of chances, could only put the ball in the net once, which would end up costing them the three points.
As a result, the media were further, and Ndoye did not accept criticism as his wastefulness was highlighted.
The 25-year-old featured regularly for Nottingham Forest this season and made 24 appearances in all competitions.
However, after only scoring once in the top-flight this season, this wastefulness in the final third continued on Saturday.
Dan Ndoye criticised for missed opportunity vs Qatar
For Switzerland, the draw against Qatar was an embarrassment.
The Swiss were expected to win the group, considering they boast multiple players from Europe’s top five leagues. However, this now seems a difficult side.
As a result, many players were slammed, and while Ndoye did play far better than some on the pitch, he still missed a glorious chance early on.
Kicker on 13 June gave the winger a four rating before writing: “He repeatedly found himself in promising shooting positions and constantly troubled the Qatari defence.
“However, he remained unlucky in front of goal. Ndoye missed the best opportunity in the tenth minute from a central position.”
Will Ndoye be at Nottingham Forest next season?
Football Insider exclusively revealed that Nottingham Forest are reluctant to sell Ndoye this summer despite his tricky first season at the City Ground.
The Tricky Trees are hoping to see more from the winger next season and believe that he can kick on.
However, interest is building for the attacker, especially in Italy, with Roma keen to strike a deal this summer transfer window.
Sources have informed Football Insider that it would take a big offer for Forest to part with Ndoye in the coming months, with the interest in the 25-year-old not expected to die down anytime soon.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if his performances for Switzerland in the 2026 World Cup will affect Nottingham Forest’s stance on a potential summer sale as they look to move away from the relegation zone in the 2026-27 campaign.
