Aston Villa are set to host Nottingham Forest on Saturday as Liam Delap looks to finally end his woeful goalscoring drought in the Premier League.

The Tricky Trees’ record signing has had an okay start to life at the City Ground since his £50million move from Chelsea.

However, it will be desperate to get his first goal at the club, with the pressure already starting to mount on the 23-year-old.

Delap is currently on a dreadful goalless streak and has not scored a competitive goal in January.

Since then, he has played 27 matches for both Chelsea and Forest without finding the net.

Nevertheless, given his previous record against Aston Villa, this streak could come to an end on the weekend.

Liam Delap usually takes his chances against Aston Villa

When back at Ipswich Town, Delap was on fire.

The striker was consistently finding the back of the net, which would earn him a move to Chelsea in 2025.

One side he was particularly prolific against was Aston Villa, with the attacker scoring three goals across the two fixtures, despite having a combined xG of just 0.86.

While he did have small cameos against Villa in both clashes last season, he did not have a single opportunity to score and had a combined xG of 0.00.

Therefore, if Delap is given a chance against the Birmingham outfit, he usually finds the net.

Given that the striker is likely to start on Saturday, he will surely have a chance to score.

As a result, Delap could prove to be a nightmare for Aston Villa and ensure Forest come home with the three points.

Unai Emery is under huge pressure to beat Nottingham Forest

Despite the victory over Club Brugge in the week, Unai Emery is no doubt under pressure to beat Forest on Saturday.

The Birmingham outfit is yet to score a goal, let alone win a game, so far in the Premier League this season.

Given that both Forest and Villa have struggled in the division to date, Emery will be expected to oversee a victory on Saturday, especially at Villa Park.

If another defeat follows, the manager may find himself under some early pressure with the international break on the horizon.
