Meet Dodo, the Nottingham Forest target who once eclipsed Alphonso Davies
Evangelos Marinakis is wasting no time in the summer transfer window as Nottingham Forest prepare for the 2026-27 campaign.
The departure of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City has been a sore one, but £116million in transfer fees is enough to send any fans into meltdown.
With most of that money also profit, having signed the player for £35min July 2024, many are expecting that to be reinvested into the market.
While Forest are yet to make any additions to Oliver Glasner's squad, it is likely just a matter of time before the announcements begin to flow at the City Ground.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month that the Reds are lining up a move for Fiorentina's Dodo, with Feyenoord's Givairo Read also on the radar.
Ola Aina and Neco Williams are both loved figures on the River Trent, but the duo have had a lack of options at full-back for the past couple of seasons.
How Dodo outclassed Alphonso Davies in 2024
Dodo, 27, has been a force to be reckoned with during his four seasons in Serie A, even notching three goals and 11 assists in 161 games.
Known for his immense talent on the ball and explosiveness in attack, the flying full-back has made a huge impact in Italy, ever since signing from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2022.
In fact, in 2024, Dodo topped the list for the most successful dribbling defender across Europe's top five leagues, completing 57 in the calendar year.
He topped a list including Alphonso Davies, Alejandro Balde and Nuno Tavares [AS], before yet another impressive campaign in the final third.
There are absolutely no doubts over his ability in and around the opposition's penalty area, but Aina still excels in one key area ahead of him.
Nottingham Forest target's defensive stats compared to Ola Aina
While Aina is not nearly as strong in the attacking third, he is more than dependable when it comes to defending his own net.
That is the clear difference between Dodo and Aina. One is happy to fly up and down the right flank, while the other is happiest when putting in a tackle.
To put things into perspective, in the players' respective leagues, Dodo completed 0.52 tackles per 90, while Aina completed 1.19 [FotMob].
The Forest man also made more blocks and interceptions, as well as boasting 2.33 more clearances per 90, clearly more focussed on the defensive side of the game.
Dodo would bring an entirely new character to the squad, one who could unlock a stubborn back line, but his weaknesses would need to be seriously considered by Glasner.
