Oliver Glasner may get himself sacked 'on purpose' as Nottingham Forest clauses revealed
Oliver Glasner may already be lining up a lucrative "insurance policy" after taking charge of Nottingham Forest.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who thinks that the move is "worthwhile" for the Austrian despite concerns from the outside.
This comes after Glasner's appointment at the City Ground was confirmed last week, in a move that saw the East Midlands club in the spotlight once again.
Wyness has already suggested that Glasner will have lucrative clauses in place to protect him if he leaves before the end of his contract, which will reportedly see him earn as much as £13million a year.
The 51-year-old has become one of the Premier League's most well-paid bosses as a result of the move, and will be under serious pressure to perform as a result.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has a reputation for demanding success, but Wyness believes that Glasner and his team have already covered his tracks.
Oliver Glasner to do 'a Jose Mourinho'
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Glasner's move to the City Ground has "all the recipes for disaster."
The Scottish businessman made it clear that there is "no stability" at Forest at the moment, as they are onto their fifth manager inside the last 12 months.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness emphasised that Glasner's cover comes from his contract.
"At £13m a year, Glasner's written himself quite an insurance policy. That's a lot of money to pay for a Premier League manager these days," he said.
"There'll be clauses depending on when he gets sacked or not, that will make it worthwhile for him. And don't rule it out him doing a Jose Mourinho and getting fired on purpose at some stage as well.
"It's got all the recipes for a disaster, but also we know that Glasner's a talented manager. Marinakis is shown to be an owner that will back success.
"It can go either way, but the thing is, which way will it go? And nobody really knows because there is no stability there, and we've got to just wait and see.
"But it's worth watching this one because, light that blue touch paper at the start of the season, and we'll see when it starts to get towards the bomb."
Glasner fallout inevitable at Nottingham Forest
Wyness told Football Insider earlier this week that it is almost "nailed on" that Glasner and Marinakis share disagreements nex season.
The former Crystal Palace boss endured clear disagreements with the board in both of his previous two jobs, and there is already an expectation for that to continue at Forest.
Wyness believes that there will be "friction" between Glasner and Marinakis, and expects "internal fights" to play out at the "first sign of trouble."
Nevertheless, with the Austrian trusted to lead the Reds forward into the next stage of their project, there will be an expectation that he brings success.
