Nottingham Forest fans in meltdown over Ousmane Diomande transfer collapse

Nottingham Forest's chances of signing Sporting CP superstar Ousmane Diomande appear to have all but vanished this summer.

The 22-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the City Ground for weeks, with Forest working hard in the background to get a deal done.

However, talks had stalled in recent days due to a disagreement between the club over the player's valuation, with Sporting wanting a guaranteed €40million (£34.3m).

Despite the gulf in valuations, supporters remained confident that Oliver Glasner would add the Ivory Coast international to his squad before the window slammed shut.

The latest news emerging, though, has reported a total collapse over a big-money deal for the Reds, and the reaction has been far from ideal on social media.

Due to Glasner's ideal position including three at the back, Diomande would have been the perfect signing. Now, a deal looks dead in the water.

Forest supporters have exploded into fits of rage on social media, with one fan labelling them the "worst club on the planet at buying players".

Forest fans have not taken well to the news at all. With all eyes on Evangelos Marinakis, the owner has some explaining to do this summer.

The Reds have only signed Xaver Schlager and Gustavo Sa, the second of whom have joined Olympiacos on loan. Unsurprisingly, fans are underwhelmed.

Why is there still hope of a Nottingham Forest deal being done?

This isn't the first time that something like this has happened when Sporting are included in transfer proceedings.

Pointed out by some on social media, Arsenal's move for Viktor Gyokeres and Manchester United's deal for Bruno Fernandes "collapsed" at the final stages.

Both of those deals turned out to be a tactic for the Portuguese giants to get more money from the deal, but very few can remain optimistic.

Diomande has the ability to become one of the most talented centre-backs in world football, but it looks unlikely that he will be able to reach those heights at the City Ground anymore.
