Nottingham Forest given encouragement to sign Federico Chiesa after transfer plea
Nottingham Forest are set to seek market opportunities this summer as they look to build off a strong end to the season.
Vitor Pereira arrived in February and guided the Tricky Trees away from relegation, ultimately finishing five points clear of the drop.
Decision-makers at the City Ground must now ensure a similar season is avoided, with a big transfer window neccessary.
And it could be kicked off by the potential arrival of Federico Chiesa, who has, this week, offered a market opportunity for the likes of Nottingham Forest.
The 28-year-old's situation could be one that develops very quickly over the coming weeks.
Federico Chiesa: Come and get me
Football Insider exclusively revealed in November that Liverpool were willing to accept a bid for Chiesa, but a move never materialised.
The winger had started the season excellently, scoring late on the opening day against Bournemouth and also netting against Crystal Palace in September.
Just the week before, the Italy international had supplied two assists against Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
But no matter what he did, Chiesa could not seem to work his way into Arne Slot's Premier League starting XI.
The 28-year-old was once among the brightest talents in world football before injury struck, but his manager refused to start even him even as he looked to have finally entered a period without those issues.
Slot has now departed Liverpool, but Chiesa is desperate to not be stuck in a similar position under Andoni Iraola.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport this week, he said: "I want to play and if I don’t find continuity in the Premier League I’ll need to find it elsewhere.
"This season just gone, I got next to no minutes. I’ll go to the U.S. for pre-season then I’ll talk to the club and Iraola and we’ll see.”
Given Nottingham Forest's struggles with Dan Ndoye and Dilane Bakwa, a move for a more established and experienced winger could be ideal.
Why Nottingham Forest could use Chiesa
Should Nottingham Forest sign Chiesa, they will not just be signing a right-winger.
The Italian can play on the right, on the left and through the middle, with the two-footedness to perform in any forward position.
The injuries have been damaging over the years, but the former Juventus man remains a player with huge quality, still in his prime.
A move for Chiesa almost feels a no brainer for Nottingham Forest, who have very little to lose and so much to gain.
