Nottingham Forest to lose out as Aston Villa hit by '£10m' blow

Nottingham Forest must accept losing out on "significant" revenue unless fans pay the price for the club's stadium plans.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that ticket prices could go up if parts of the City Ground are closed.

The Reds are advancing in revelopment talks along the River Trent, with the club already purchasing and acquiring the surrounding houses for demolition.

Right now, the City Ground has a capacity of just over 31,000, but there are plans for the redevelopment of the Trent End, Peter Taylor Stand and the Brian Clough Stand.

This would see the capacity be increased to 52,500, a figure that would see the stadium become one of the biggest in the country.

However, these plans are likely to be extremely costly, and the supporters may even end up having to pay for a portion of that through ticket prices.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson revealed his surprise at the length of some of the plans, while also comparing to Aston Villa's stadium redevelopment.

"If you've got a quarter of your stadium closed, or even more than a quarter, but let's say it's a quarter of your stadium closed for the season..." he said.

"Clearly, that's very significant to your revenue in that period. And you know we're not talking about quick processes there, given those timelines, although they do seem extremely long.

"Villa have got this problem right now, probably costing them £10million in lost revenue to have that stand closed for the season.

"It's very hard to mitigate it. You can try and the prices up elsewhere, but that just really upsets everybody. So you have to effectively take the hit in that season."

While supporters are understandably excited about the stadium being redeveloped, those at the City Ground are focusing on the here and now.

Oliver Glasner has just added Liam Delap to his squad for £45million, joining Ousmane Diomande and Xaver Schlager in rather quiet window.

Forest could still get more business done before the window shuts, and after selling Elliot Anderson for £116m, it is certainly expected this summer.

Evangelos Marinakis could easily keep the cash back, rather than splashing it on new players, but the Reds continue to be active in the market.
