Nottingham Forest 'working hard' to agree Lucas Bergvall deal
Nottingham Forest are working hard to convince Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Bergvall to join the club in the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old is believed to be keen to leave the North London club, but has reservations over a move to the City Ground after they spent a year battling relegation.
However, following the appointment of Oliver Glasner, Forest are making ambitious transfer plans and believe Bergvall would be a fantastic addition to their midfield.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that efforts are being made to convince Bergvall to be part of a new era at Nottingham Forest.
Tottenham are also believed to be reluctant to let the talented midfielder leave, despite his desire to seek a move away, and could block his departure.
Following the £116million sale of Elliot Anderson to Man City, however, Nottingham Forest are prepared to spend big and believe they could test Spurs’ resolve.
Could Nottingham Forest make a move for Lucas Bergvall?
Football Insider revealed that Nottingham Forest have made a formal offer to sign Bergvall, which was rejected by Tottenham, but they are preparing to step up their pursuit.
There is also interest from a number of clubs across Europe in the Sweden international, but there is a feeling he could be tempted to remain in England.
Given the money now available to Forest, they believe they are well-placed to get a deal over the line, and are now making efforts on the player’s side of things.
"Nottingham Forest are now looking for replacements for Elliot Anderson," Brown told Football Insider.
"It's going to be difficult to replace him, it always is when you sell your best player, but there are a few players they're already looking at who could come in and replace him.
"Lucas Bergvall has been spoken about, but it will depend whether he's willing to make the move to Forest when they're not playing in Europe.
"They want to be optimistic, but it's hard when you haven't got much to offer players in terms of their position in the Premier League after they were battling relegation.
"But they'll be working hard to convince him and some of their other targets that he can come in and make a real difference as part of their ambitious plans.
"However they go about it, they want to convince him of the move, and it's difficult if a player doesn't want to join because there's not always much you can do.
"But if there is a suggestion he could be convinced, they have to do what they can to get it over the line."
How do Tottenham feel about selling Bergvall?
Nottingham Forest’s interest in Bergvall has grown after the player made it clear to Tottenham that he would be keen on a move away from North London this summer.
Following back-to-back 17th-place finishes, he is keen to move to a club playing at the highest level and has ambitions that outweigh what he has achieved at Spurs.
However, Football Insider revealed on 6 July that Tottenham are reluctant to sell Bergvall as things stand and could wait until later in the summer before cashing in.
Spurs are reluctant to lose one of their most talented players, despite what has been a busy transfer window, but could be tempted to let him go for the right price.
Nottingham Forest may have the funds to compete, but must first convince the player of the move, and are at risk of missing out.
