Pablo Maffeo looks set to move to Nottingham Forest soon as he prepares to join fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned club Olympiacos.

Vitor Pereira needs to bolster his defensive options this summer after Forest’s tough 2025-26 campaign.

The Reds conceded 51 Premier League goals last term and could lose several key defenders ahead of next season.

Neco Williams is attracting attention from numerous top flight sides, while Murillo’s future is also uncertain as it stands.

Forest failed to get a deal to sign Mallorca defender Maffeo over the line last summer, but could soon get their man in the coming months.

Evangelos Marinakis has the 28-year-old in his sights again as Maffeo closes in on a move to another club he owns, Olympiacos.

Forest are in clear need of another right-back ahead of next season, with Maffeo surely in their sights once more.

Maffeo already has experience in English football, after moving from Espanyol to Man City's academy in 2013.

He made his senior debut for City in a Champions League clash against Steaua Bucharest in August 2016, then featured twice more for the club before a permanent move to Stuttgart in 2018.

Maffeo joined Mallorca in 2022 and quickly established himself as a regular in La Liga, with over 200 appearances in the Spanish top flight up to now.

El Chiringuito reported last summer that Forest had offered Mallorca around £5million for Maffeo's signature after agreeing personal terms with his camp.

They failed to land his services, but the 28-year-old now looks to be on the move a year later after Fabrizio Romano reported that Olympiacos have completed a deal with the relegated La Liga side.

Maffeo is clearly well-liked by Marinakis and the scouting teams of both Forest and Olympiacos, given how he has been linked with moves to each club.

It would certainly not be a surprise to see him end up at Forest soon, either later this summer or even in January if he impresses in Greece.

Which players have moved between Olympiacos and Forest in the past?

Sources have told Football Insider that Vitor Pereira could be sacked by Marinakis soon as numerous key stars prepare to leave Forest.

Pereira will want to have full control over the signings he makes, but could be undermined by Marinakis if more signings from Olympiacos and Botafogo.

Six stars have made a permanent move between Forest and the Greek side over the years, while another six have been loaned to Olympiacos from the City Ground outfit.

Notable stars to have made such a move include Cafu, Joao Carvalho, Tiago Silva, Josh Bowler, Omar Richards and Marko Stamenic.
