Stefan Borson expects Nottingham Forest to accept Elliot Anderson offer 'because it's so big'

Nottingham Forest's sale of Elliot Anderson could help battle an incoming punishment from UEFA following the 2025-26 campaign.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that Forest must have breached footballing earning rules.

Despite finishing 16th in the Premier League, Vitor Pereira led the Reds to the Europa League semi-final, losing out to eventual winners Aston Villa over two legs.

While there have been no announcements over any potential breaches, it is believed that Forest will find out in the "next few weeks," which could impact the club's transfer plans.

Nottingham Forest plans rest of UEFA leniency

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson spoke on Forest's potential problems due to their earnings on the pitch and behind the scenes.

"It makes a huge difference for all the SCR stuff. They are going to be in a settlement agreement with UEFA, even though they've not qualified for the next tournament," Borson said.

"I think they will have breached football earnings; I can't see how they didn't for 2024-25. We'll find out about that in the next few weeks.

"That's maybe playing part of their deliberation in terms of who they sell. They do have other players they could sell. So, all of that's positive for Forest in terms of not having to take City's offer.

"But I suspect they want to take the offer just because it's so big. You never know what can happen with a footballer. They can get an injury or they can lose form.

"We have seen players that people have priced at £100million that have not moved, and then all of a sudden, they're nowhere."

Who could Forest cash in on instead of Elliot Anderson?

As many at the City Ground will know, Anderson, who Man City are desperate to sign, is not the only valuable asset at Forest's disposal.

Despite putting pen to paper on a new deal as recently as last month, numberous teams are interested in star centre-back Murillo, and have been for quite some time.

Forest's Player of the Season, Neco Williams, is also in high demand, though it would appear that the Welshman has no desire to seek a new challenge away from the City Ground.

Outside of those names, Nicolo Savona, Ibrahim Sangare and Dan Ndoye are all potentially players who could be sacrificed should Forest be punished financially by UEFA this summer.
