Nottingham Forest are surely regretting not sealing the signing of Youssouf Fofana in the summer transfer window after a dazzling start to life at Sevilla.
The Tricky Trees were heavily linked with the 27-year-old midfielder throughout August, and were one of the favourites to win his signature.
However, Oliver Glasner’s side would eventually move on to other targets, which allowed Sevilla to secure a loan move for the AC Milan star.
On Friday, he made his full debut for the Spanish side, and played a key role in their 1-0 victory over Valencia.
Many of Fofana’s stats were simply stunning, and he was easily one of the best players on the pitch.
Therefore, Forest are probably already regretting not sealing the transfer as they continue to search for their first Premier League win of the season.
How good was Youssouf Fofana vs Sevilla?
Fofana no doubt had an excellent game against Sevilla.
According to Fotmob on 12 September, he had the most shots in the game at three, had a 0.18 xG, completed 90 per cent of his passes, completed all three of his long balls, had two touches in the opposition box, made three tackles, one block, two interceptions, eight recoveries and won five out of eight ground duels.
Therefore, not only did Fofana manage to be influential in attack, but he also did a fantastic job defensively.
Considering that Football Insider exclusively revealed that Forest could have signed Fofana for as little as £15million, the club have missed out on a bargain.
Therefore, the Tricky Trees are no doubt regretting this decision now.
Oliver Glasner already on thin ice at Nottingham Forest
Everyone knows that managers do not get long to prove themselves at Nottingham Forest, and Glasner will be no different.
After failing to win any of his first three Premier League matches, a victory against Aston Villa is crucial.
The Birmingham outfit are also struggling and have not scored a single goal in the division so far.
Therefore, there will be an expectation that they can pull off a result at Villa Park, especially as Villa were in the Champions League midweek.
However, it remains to be seen if they are able to achieve this on Saturday.
