Nottingham Forest's Matz Sels transfer plan revealed
Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels still has a key role to play at the City Ground, sources have told Football Insider.
The Reds’ recent hunt for a new number one has raised “question marks” surrounding the 34-year-old’s long-term future, but there are no plans to cash in on him at the moment.
Oliver Glasner is understood to be keen to bring in his own man between the posts, but that will not necessarily point towards an exit for Sels.
Sources have indicated that the planned addition is more down to a lack of confidence in second choice John Victor, rather than a desire to move Sels on.
The Reds triggered an automatic extension clause in the Belgian’s contract earlier this summer, which is set to tie him down at the City Ground until the summer of 2028.
The veteran notched seven clean sheets in the Premier League last term, and has begun the new campaign as the Reds’ number one once again.
Nottingham Forest assessing goalkeeper options
Forest have already moved to bolster their goalkeeping department this summer with the signing of Steven Benda from Fulham.
The 27-year-old spent time on loan with both Millwall and Feyenoord last term, but is not expected to pose a genuine fight for the number one spot at the City Ground.
However, his addition comes as part of a long-term bid to restructure the goalkeeping department at the East Midlands outfit, with Sels now into the twilight of his career and little confidence in Victor.
The Reds saw a bid for Crystal Palace’s Dean Henderson rejected last weekend, and are now being linked with a move to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Liverpool.
They are rapidly running out of time to conclude a deal ahead of Tuesday night’s 11pm deadline, but their goalkeeping pursuits could continue into January.
Nottingham Forest ready for defender exit
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday morning that Forest had agreed terms with both Southampton and Millwall over a deal for young defender Zach Abbott.
The Saints were the favourites to win the race for the 20-year-old, who is now expected to complete his move to St Mary’s ahead of the deadline.
Abbott is set to move to the South Coast on an initial season-long loan deal, with the Championship outfit also having the option to buy him as part of the agreement.
The starlet made 10 appearances for Forest in all competitions last term, but is not seen as part of their long-term plans.
