Nuno has made 'statement signing' that signals end of Lloris career at Tottenham - Phillips

Kevin Phillips insists Tottenham are preparing for life without Hugo Lloris after signing Pierluigi Gollini.

The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the Atalanta stopper is a safe signing.

On Sunday (24th July), Spurs announced the signing of Gollini, 26, on a one-year loan deal.

It was confirmed there is an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

Lloris, 34, has entered the final year of his current deal with a Spurs source telling this site on February 25th that the club are preparing for his departure.

On 13th February, it was also revealed Lloris remains in regular contact with former boss Mauricio Pochettino who is now managing PSG.

Phillips claims Gollini’s previous experience with Aston Villa makes his capture a safe move by Spurs.

When asked if Tottenham are preparing for life without Lloris, Phillips told football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, “Yeah, it looks like it.

“I didn’t realise he had played for Villa, so he has that experience.

“It’s a safer signing than it looks for any scenarios that crop up over the coming months.

“It’s a solid signing and what a statement of intent from Nuno that says things are going to change at Tottenham.

“Things will be done his way, it will be interesting to see if there are similar signings over the next month or so.”

Gollini made 20 appearances for Villa during their 2016-17 Championship campaign.

He then spent two years on loan at Atalanta before making the move permanent.
