Nuno Tavares may have played his last Arsenal game after news in last 48 hours - pundit

Nuno Tavares may have played his last game for Arsenal, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker also claimed Thomas Partey’s season may be over as well.

The pair were both taken off during Arsenal’s 3-0 humiliation at Crystal Palace on Monday night (4 February).

Tavares was dragged off at half-time as he made only his second start of 2022 while Partey was replaced with 15 minutes to go after picking up an injury.

Mikel Arteta told club media after the game he was “sorry” the 22-year-old had to be replaced and revealed Partey’s injury was a “big concern”.

“Tavares, I don’t think he’ll play again,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He’s been dragged twice at half-time in the last couple of months. He didn’t look very good at all against Palace.

“But Xhaka can’t play left-back. He’ll be targeted by teams for his lack of pace.

“There are some problems in there for Arsenal. Thomas Partey went down with what looked like a bad one. If you’re going down with muscle injuries at this stage of the season you might not play again this season.

“With six or seven weeks left of the season, some of these injuries are going to see you out for the rest of the season.

“It’s a bit of a headache for Arsenal. This is where they need to show what they are made of. It’s going to be a very fascinating race to see who gets into the top-four.”

In other news, Arsenal are in the hunt to sign a third Aston Villa star and Steven Gerrard has told his agent he can go.
