Leeds United have been installed the favourites to sign Swansea City attacker Daniel James, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

SkyBet make the Yorkshire giants 5/2 to land the 21-year-old this summer after he came within a whisker of moving to Elland Road on deadline day in the January window on a loan-to-buy deal.

The bookies have placed Bournemouth (4/1) next in the betting, ahead of Norwich City, Leicester City and Southampton (all 12/1).

Football Insider verdict:

In one way, it’s no surprise Leeds are the bookies favourites to sign James after he underwent a medical and agreed personal terms with the club only a few months back. But James’ subsequent impressive form, coupled with Leeds’ automatic promotion hopes all but ending following consecutive Easter weekend defeats, mean it is becoming less likely he will sign permanently for the Whites. Leeds had agreed a deal worth £10million in January, made up of a £1.5m loan and a further £8.5m fee if they got promoted, but James’ value is likely to have soared as a result of a series of blistering displays in which he has demonstrated he can destroy even top-level defences and not just those in the Championship. A left winger who cuts in on to his favoured right foot, James is quick of foot and thought, and is becoming increasingly clinical in front of goal. Leeds would love to have him, but there is serious doubt as to whether they ever will.
