Odion Ighalo is willing to take a £150,000-a-week pay cut to sign permanently for Man United from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, Football Insider understands.

The 30-year-old striker has made a major impact at Old Trafford since signing on deadline day in January on a loan-to-buy deal.

Ighalo has made no secret of his desire to convert the loan into a full-time transfer and a United source has told Football Insider that he is ready to accept a 50 per cent wage cut to make the deal happen.

The Nigeria international has a £300,000-a-week contract at the Chinese club that runs until the end of December of next year.

United would not be willing to match those wages for a player who turns 31 in June.

Under the terms of Ighalo's loan, the Premier League giants have the option to sign him permanently in the next window before an agreed cut-off date.

The former Watford forward has become a cult figure to fans after making a goal-laden start to his United career.

After opening his account against Brugge, he bagged an FA Cup double at Derby before an outrageous goal against Austrians LASK lifted his tally to four from just 318 minute of action, a goal every 80 minutes.

Ighalo has not yet scored in the Premier League for United - albeit from only 30 minutes of action - but is a proven performer in the competition.

He scored 40 goals in 100 appearances for the Hornets during his time at Vicarage Road and continued to net frequently in China with 46 strikes in 72 top-flight games.
