Danny Mills has revealed he was blown away by Christian Eriksen’s game-changing performance in Tottenham’s win over Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England international was left raving over the way in which the Danish star managed to influence the game in their season-opening clash.
Eriksen started the game on the bench but was introduced by Mauricio Pochettino with Spurs 1-0 down, Tanguy Ndombele equalising nine minutes later.
Having watched Eriksen help Harry Kane score a brace to seal a 3-1 victory, Mills was left drooling over the 27-year-old’s abilities and insisted the club should be doing all they can to keep him on board until transfer windows across Europe slam shut.
“Pochettino left him out but oh boy, didn’t he change the game when he came on?” Mills told Football Insider.
“He was outstanding and I’ve said many times that Eriksen is one of the most crucial parts of the way Tottenham play, his ability to create, make those opportunities for other players and control the game.
“If I was Tottenham, I would be doing everything to keep him right now.”
Many European clubs have until the start of September to conduct their transfer business, with the Premier League’s deadline having passed a day before the start of the season.
Eriksen currently has a year left on his contract at Tottenham, meaning he could leave as a free agent next summer if an extension is not signed.
