Paul Robinson claimed that Liverpool midfielder Fabinho was one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O'Leary, the former Tottenham and England No.1 revealed that due to the role he plays for Liverpool he needs to be considered among the best holding midfielders in the division, but did add he also rates Manchester City's Fernandinho very highly too.

The 26-year-old Brazilian has featured in 15 games across all competitions for the Reds this season and is yet to miss a Premier League match for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Robinson suggested that Fabinho was an automatic choice for Klopp when it comes to picking his team as normally he keeps his place in midfield while the likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Georginio Wijnaldum exchange places.

When asked whether Fabinho is the best defensive midfielder in the Premier League, Robinson told Football Insider: "He seems to be the one in midfield that is the automatic pick as the other two, he plays a midfield three, are always rotated.

"But he does seem to be the automatic pick out of the three midfielders.

"I think he's up there when it comes to the best holding midfielders in the Premier League, I like Fernandinho as he is outstanding as well, but I think the role he plays in the Liverpool team...he is definitely one of the best."

Liverpool paid £43.7million to sign Fabinho from French giants AS Monaco in the summer of 2018 with the midfielder signing a four-year contract upon arriving at Anfield.

While the midfielder is a regular member of Liverpool's first-team, the 26-year-old is yet to establish himself in Brazil's side.

Fabinho has only won eight international caps and only played 36 minutes of Brazil's last four matches.
