'There goes any hope of beating City' - Liverpool fans react after yet another devastating blow
By Richard Parks
Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to express their despair after Joel Matip joined the walking wounded ahead of the club’s Champions League showdown against Manchester City.
The Merseyside giants announced on their official social media channels and website on Tuesday morning that the giant centre-back ruptured a thigh muscle in Saturday’s win over Crystal Palace.
Matip played the full 90 minutes of the clash but scans have showed the extent of the damage and he is expected to undergo an operation and miss the rest of the season.
The Cameroon international is the fourth first teamer in line to miss the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final at Anfield.
Adam Lallana (hamstring) and Joe Gomez (ankle ligaments) have already been ruled out, while Emre Can has not trained for the past week due to a back problem.

Matip our for the rest of the season is no doubt a huge blow given Gomez is out too. Suddenly that midfield and center back positions looking very light #LFC

Joel Matip out for season… there goes any hope of beating City… unless Klavan does a job. You know Lovren will make errors leading to goals. Inevitable. #LFC

Not good news on #Matip . Good on us so far to position where we are in the table just as insurance. Get well soon mate, we need you healthy next year. With regards to #Lovren , I’m going to be an optimist. Plz buck up and don’t make me eat my words.#LFC #LFCFamily #liverpoolfc https://t.co/8GfBB9l8mK
