West Ham United are looking to sign a new striker in the January transfer window to enhance their attacking options, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Igor Jesus is one player the Premier League side are considering.

The 23-year-old scored 25 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions last season for Botafogo but is under contract with the Brazilian side until 2027.

Jesus is on the radar of numerous Premier League clubs at the moment, but Botafogo don’t need to sell and the striker isn’t keen on a move midway through the season.

West Ham or any other club would have to pay a huge fee to tempt Botafogo into selling him, which could prevent the Hammers from pursuing him.

Julen Lopetegui might need to consider other options and look elsewhere rather than focusing on Jesus.

West Ham have a lack of funds available in January

West Ham might want to sign a striker in January, but sources have told Football Insider that the club don’t have funds “readily available” to spend.

It is unlikely the Hammers will make a big-name signing in the winter transfer window because of their financial issues, but the club are still trying to improve their attacking options.

West Ham have only scored 13 goals in the Premier League this season, with Jarrod Bowen currently their top scorer with three.

Benfica are set to demand big money for the striker, and that could make negotiations difficult for the Premier League side.
