Oscar Cortes: Rangers plan to accept new offer as replacement lined up

Oscar Cortes has no future at Rangers and they are planning to reinvest the funds generated from his departure back into Danny Rohl’s squad this summer.

Cortes has spent the season away from Ibrox, with an initial loan spell at Sporting Gijon being cut short so he could join Argentinian top flight side Huracan in January.

The Colombian winger has impressed in recent weeks, and recently admitted that he is enjoying his time in Argentina, with a return to the Rangers fold seeming increasingly unlikely anytime soon.

Huracan retain an option to buy him when their season ends, but as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Rangers could look to sell him to another club for a bigger fee.

Rangers’ transfer plans would then involve signing a new winger with some of the money generated from the 22-year-old’s departure.

Rangers will use Oscar Cortes funds to bolster Danny Rohl’s squad

Cortes has only played 21 times for Rangers since joining from Lens in January 2024, with his only goal for the club coming a month later against Hearts.

It has been reported that Huracan’s option to buy fee for Cortes is set at £1.65m, but even if they decide against taking it up, Rangers expect to field interest in the 22-year-old this summer.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “(Rangers) will be willing to let him move on, and it does seem that Cortes himself will be keen to make a permanent exit as well.

“For all parties, it would be probably best to move on and let Cortes get on with his future elsewhere.

“Maybe Rangers can use any potential money from a sale to boost their squad elsewhere in the transfer window.”

Rangers want to sign Mikey Moore but he could stay at Spurs

The money gained from Cortes’ departure may help Rangers in their quest to sign Tottenham loanee Moore.

He has been a regular starter in their title charge under Rohl, and has the potential to be a real talent for years to come at just 18-years-old.

Rohl wants him to sign permanently, but sources have told Football Insider that Moore could stay at Tottenham to be a part of their first team squad next season if they are relegated to the Championship.

The likelihood of Spurs going down has increased in recent weeks, but Gers fans will be hoping they survive the drop so they have a better chance of landing Moore this summer.
