Paul Robinson heaped praise on Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka following his display in the 1-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England international gushed about Dubravka’s performance against the Blues and the overall impact he has made at St James Park.
The Magpies shot-stopper only conceded one goal on Saturday despite eight of Chelsea’s 16 attempts on goal hitting the target.
Robinson claimed that Dubravka had transformed Newcastle ever since arriving at St James Park and compared the 30-year-old’s impact on the Magpies to the one Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson has made at Anfield.
When asked if Dubravka is worth his weight in gold based on his performance against Chelsea, Robinson told Football Insider: “I think he has been a huge signing for Newcastle as he has transformed the team.
“They needed a top-quality keeper and I think the way he has performed on Saturday was outstanding and while he’s not on the same level, I think he has had a similar impact on Newcastle to what Alisson has had on Liverpool.
“I think Newcastle, since Tim Krul left, have needed a top top goalkeeper as they had a real problem there, they brought Dubravka in on loan with a view to a permanent and they quickly made the deal permanent as his quality was easy to see and he showed that Saturday for Newcastle.”
Dubravka has played every minute of the Magpies’ Premier League campaign so far and has conceded 14 goals as well as kept three clean sheets in the process.
The Slovakian shot-stopper was signed from Sparta Prague in July 2018 following a six-month loan spell and is contracted to stay at St James Park until 2022.
