Paul Merson predicts Tottenham v Chelsea

By Harvey Byrne

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes that Chelsea will emerge victors against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

The two London clubs are set to meet each other at Wembley this weekend for an FA Cup semi-final clash.

A win for either side will send them through to the final of the respected competition and with both sides also battling in the Premier League table this will be sure to be an enthralling encounter.

Now, when Tottenham last met Chelsea in January, Spurs ran out 2-0 victors at White Hart Lane with two goals coming from Dele Alli.

However, Merson believes it will be different this time around and believes a result either way will have a bigger affect on the Blues, thus predicting a 2-1 win for Antonio Conte’s men.

“Looking at this match from a psychological point of view in terms of the title race, it’s bigger for Chelsea than Tottenham,” told Merson to the Sky Sports website.

“If they lose this after the defeat at Manchester United, then the doubts will really start creeping in.

“Tottenham have been steamrollering teams in recent weeks but they have not had a serious test since Gent and Liverpool before that.

“Chelsea will want to produce a response and they should edge a close one.”

A win for either side will see them return to Wembley for the final where they can meet one of Arsenal or Manchester City, who will be playing at 3.00pm on Sunday.

Tottenham have not won the competition since 1991 against Nottingham Forest at the old Wembley, while Chelsea last won it as recently as 2012 against Liverpool.

Both teams will be gunning for a second piece of silverware this season with one of the sides all but guaranteed to lift the Premier League title before the FA Cup final in May.

In other Tottenham news, this international could not believe Spurs 19-year-old was a footballer.
