Paul Merson predicts Tottenham v Everton

By Harvey Byrne

Paul Merson has predicted a close fought 3-2 win for Tottenham in their Sunday afternoon clash with Everton.

The north London club are currently preparing to host the Toffees at White Hart Lane for the Premier League encounter.

It sees two teams who are usually battling at the right end of the table meet each other with the sides placed in second and seventh respectively.

The fixture sees a return of the opening day meeting with goals from Ross Barkley and Erik Lamela resulting in a 1-1 draw.

However, Sky Sports pundit Merson believes they will be separated this time and has shared that home advantage will help Tottenham on their way to victory.

“This is a good game to kick off Super Sunday,” told Merson to the Sky Sports website.

“It’s another tough game to call but I’m going to go with home advantage and back Spurs for a slender win.

“There will be goals as both teams are excellent going forward and the defences will not be able to live with the attacking quality both sides have. And I think Spurs, who are unbeaten in 13 homes games in the league, will come out on top for a ninth straight win at White Hart Lane in the Premier League.”

Tottenham responded to being dumped out of the Europa League in excellent fashion last weekend as they ran out 4-0 victors over Stoke at White Hart Lane.

They will be hoping for a similar result this time, but the Toffees are looking impressive under Ronald Koeman with their last league defeat coming back in December against Liverpool.

Spurs will be gunning for all three points to keep the ground on top of the league Chelsea , while Everton will be looking to keep themselves within touching distance of Manchester United in sixth.
