Paul Merson predicts one attacker will dominate in West Ham v Newcastle clash
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has questioned the commitment of the Newcastle United players, ahead of their crucial Premier League clash with West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday.
Rafa Benitez’s are in desperate need of a win after a poor run has seen them take just one point from their previous nine matches and slide down the Premier League table.
The Magpies currently occupy 18th place in the table and sit just two points behind West Ham ahead of the weekend’s showdown. A much-needed victory would see Newcastle climb out of the relegation zone and see the Hammers replace them in the bottom-three.
However, West Ham are going well under their manager David Moyes and are unbeaten in their last three Premier League games, keeping three clean sheets in the process.
Merson is predicting a 2-0 win for the Hammers and has questioned the commitment of the Newcastle players for failing to produce good performances against the other teams in the bottom half.
“Newcastle put in a good performance against Arsenal and were unlucky,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“You look at games like that and think ‘if you can play like that against Arsenal, why not against clubs lower down the league?’ You have to do it week-in-week-out, against teams around you.”
Merson has backed West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic, who has scored two goals in his last three Premier League appearances to continue his good form on Saturday and believes he will have too much quality for the Magpies.
“I am not sure Newcastle will be able to handle Marko Arnautovic,” he said.
