Paul Robinson has heaped praise on West Brom loanee Ainsley Maitland-Niles for his “phenomenal” performance against Burnley.
The former England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 23-year-old is growing into a Premier League quality centre-midfielder under Sam Allardyce’s guidance.
Maitland-Niles produced an eye-catching display in a goalless draw at Turf Moor on Saturday – his third consecutive start for the Baggies.
He made five successful dribbles and 10 ball recoveries over the 90 minutes – his best statistical showing since arriving to the The Hawthorns on 1 February. (Wyscout)
Robinson claimed Maitland-Niles showed that he is more than capable of rolling his sleeves up for the relegation fight with his performance against Sean Dyche’s side.
“I thought he was phenomenal, especially given that they were down to 10 men for most of the game,” he told Football Insider.
“Maitland-Niles is growing into the player I think he knew he could be in that central midfield position.
“It is always a very difficult game away at Burnley, it is never easy. He had to roll his sleeves up and show that he can fight for the cause.
“There were plenty of teams looking at him but he took on the challenge and the task and you saw that in his performance at Burnley.
“Burnley did not look like themselves but that is credit to West Brom because they never allowed them to get going. They were unlucky not to win the game.”
