Pedro Caixinha: Rangers duo to miss Partick clash

By Will Butcher

Pedro Caixinha has revealed that defensive duo Clint Hill and Rob Kiernan will miss Saturday’s clash against Partick at Ibrox.

Hill and Kiernan have both missed the Gers last two outings, with Hill still looking to overcome a hamstring problem while Kiernan has been sidelined with a knee injury.

The duo are now likely to be given another week off by Caixinha, who has started ex-Liverpool defender Danny Wilson and youngster David Bates at centre-back for the last two games.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash Portuguese boss Caixinha told fans that he is in constant contact with the Ibrox club’s doctors as he awaits the go-ahead to pick either defender.

“Clint (Hill) maybe needs this week again and Rob (Kiernan) maybe also needs this week,” Caixinha told Rangers’ official website.

“We need to keep assessing with the physio and the doctor to see how things are going.”

The duo’s injuries has seen Bates make his debut alongside Wilson, keeping two clean sheets in their last two outings against Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.

Alongside James Tavernier and Myles Beerman, the Gers have looked secure and it remains to be seen if either Hill or Kiernan will resume their place in the starting eleven after recovering.

The Gers’ 3-0 win over Aberdeen on Sunday has seen them close the gap to nine points between themselves and Derek McInnes’ Dons.

Caixinha will be hoping for a third win in his fifth game in charge to keep the pressure on Aberdeen, as well as taking momentum into next week’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic.
