'People won’t believe it' - Neville Southall makes claim about Everton activity in January

Goodison Park legend Neville Southall has claimed that Everton will get themselves out of the rut they currently find themselves in and sign at least one new striker in January.

The major criticism that has followed around the Toffees since the summer transfer window shut is that they failed to adequately replace Romelu Lukaku, who left for Manchester United in a big money move.

Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney were brought in to fill in the gap up front, but neither have shown any signs that they will be able to match the Belgian’s goalscoring record.

After Thursday’s Europa League exit at the hands of Lyon in France, former goalkeeper Southall said on his personal Twitter account that he believes that it’s only a matter of time before Everton turn around their fortunes.

“We will sign at least one striker in January. Goals will come so will clean sheets. People won’t believe it but it’s what’s going to happen,” he said.

Everton are still on the search for a new manager and with every game that passes it seems that caretaker boss David Unsworth won’t be handed the role on a permanent basis, having lost all three of his games in charge.

Ronald Koeman was sacked last following a dire start to the season, even though he spent big on improving his squad in all areas in the summer – except up front.

Southall’s optimism is no doubt something that all Toffees fans are in need of in these dark times.

In other Everton news, this 43-year-old has issued an emphatic response to questions about speculation linking him to Goodison Park.
