Pep agrees with me - Exclusive: Bruce makes huge claim about Aston Villa player
Aston Villa man-of-the-moment Jack Grealish is currently the best player in the Premier League.
That is according to just-retired defender Alex Bruce, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the playmaker spearheading the club’s pursuit of trophy glory and Premier League survival.
Grealish has taken his game to a new level following Villa’s return to the top flight and is their main hope of causing an upset in Sunday’s League Cup final against Man City.
Bruce, the 35-year-old son of ex-Villa manager Steve Bruce and who has just hung up his boots after a year at Kilmarnock in the SPL, is in no doubt about Grealish’s performance level and even nominated him ahead of the legion of Liverpool players expected to clean up in the player-of-the-year awards.
“In my opinion he is the best player in the Premier League at the minute, that’s
how highly I rate him,” Bruce told Football Insider. “I think he’s an exceptional player and he’s obviously getting the accolades.
“Pep Guardiola has come out and backed me up with that comment so that’s how important he is to Villa.
“He creates the goals, he scores the goals, he’s been exceptional for them this season.”
In 29 appearances across all competitions, the playmaker has scored nine goals and registered eight assists, performing at a consistently high level while also scoring a series of technically brilliant goals.
Grealish, who came close to joining Tottenham two summers ago, has a Villa contract that runs until the summer of 2023.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that the club are to tell senior defender to find a new club.
