Pep Guardiola 'doesn't trust' Jack Grealish after Man City decision confirmed - pundit

Man City manager Pep Guardiola “does not trust” Jack Grealish out of possession.

The is the view of 2000 European Golden Shoe winner Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 26-year-old’s position at the Etihad.

Grealish was named on the bench for Man City’s top-of-the-table clash against Liverpool on Sunday.

The £100million summer signing entered the field with just seven minutes to go, with the game finishing 2-2.

The attacking midfielder was also a substitute against Atletico Madrid last Tuesday.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs as to why Grealish was overlooked for City’s two biggest fixtures of this season so far, Phillips said:

“It tells me that Guardiola doesn’t trust him at the moment.

“It has taken Jack a while to settle into the system and what Guardiola demands week in, week out.

“There is not doubting his ability but sometimes when you play for a manager like Guardiola you have to be exceptional in and out of possession. You have to be very disciplined in what you do. Maybe that is lacking in Jack’s game.

“He is still young though and he will get there. There is so many good players to choose from at City. Jack is no longer the big fish. He is just another player at a massive football club with world-class players. He has to work his way into the team.”
