Loan moves for Aston Villa rising stars Dominic Revan and Callum Rowe are ideal after their impressive displays against Liverpool, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer suggested Dean Smith’s first-team squad is too strong for any of the players who featured in the 4-1 defeat to make a breakthrough soon.
Rowe, who provided the assist for Louie Barry’s goal at Villa Park has joined National League North side Hereford until the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Revan, who captained the young Villains, has sealed a temporary move to National League South side Weymouth.
Asked by Football Insider whether gaining regular first-team experience is the correct move for the pair, Agbonlahor said: “Yes, it’s definitely the right thing to do.
“Some of them [the side v Liverpool] probably won’t play for Aston Villa again. You look at the Aston Villa squad at the moment and you can’t even see Louie Barry making the bench and he was so good in that game.
“In the future, a lot of them will but some of them won’t. They will end up moving and going on loans and moving to other clubs.
“Under-23s football is good but you can’t beat playing against men week in, week out, in a competitive league.
“It makes sense for them to go and get that experience that a lot of players have done and it’s good for them. Six months experience, come back and re-evaluate what their chances of getting into the first-team are.”
