Danny Mills claims Callum Wilson is an “ideal signing for Steve Bruce” as Newcastle United close in on the signing of the Bournemouth striker.
The former Leeds and Manchester City defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, was confident that the 28-year-old could score as many as 17 goals for the Magpies in the upcoming season if he stays fit.
The centre-forward flew into Newcastle last night and will undergo his medical today as he puts the finishing touches on a move to Tyneside.
Wilson is set to put pen to paper on a five-year deal at St. James’ Park which will see him become one of the club’s top earner on around £100,000-a-week.
When asked by Football Insider if the transfer represented good value for money, Mills said:
“I think it is really good value for money, especially baring in mind what they spent on Joelinton.
“If he plays 38 league games he will probably get you 15, 16, 17 goals. That would be a really good return and goals is something that Newcastle need. He has got pace as well and that can be utilised.
“A fantastic move for Newcastle and an ideal, perfect, signing for Steve Bruce.”
The England international has scored 41 goals in 126 Premier League appearances and despite eight of those coming last season it was not enough to save the Cherries from relegation.
Wilson will bring some much-needed fire power to Bruce’s attack ahead of the new season with £40million signing Joelinton having failed to hit the heights last year following his club-record move from Hoffenheim.
