Darren Bent has suggested that an Everton midfield partnership of Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph could be “top-six” quality.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Aston Villa and Tottenham striker says that the duo look “perfect” together on paper, suggesting that their qualities complement each other in the middle of the park.
Injury to both Gomes and Delph means that the midfielders have not played alongside one another much this season, with them spending just 96 minutes on the pitch at the same time to date.
With Gomes having come back briefly from his injury problem before the international break, Bent says that a midfield containing the Portuguese and English stars looks ideal.
Asked if they were top-six quality, Bent told Football Insider: Yeah, maybe. Time will tell I guess. They’re both very, very good players but there are some real good midfielders in that top six.
“On paper, it looks like the perfect partnership, the perfect thing to do, but time will tell.”
Delph missed the start of the Premier League season due to an injury picked up over the off-season, the England international having joined Marco Silva’s men from Manchester City in summer.
Gomes also put pen to paper on a permanent move to Goodison Park, having impressed in his season-long loan spell from Barcelona during the 2018/19 campaign.
Everton sit 18th heading into the next round of Premier League fixtures having suffered a 1-0 defeat to Burnley in their last outing.
