Phil Foden: Premier League rivals dealt blow as Man City contract agreement nears
Phil Foden is edging closer to agreeing a new Manchester City contract despite interest in his services from several clubs in the Premier League and abroad.
Recent reports have claimed that Foden has agreed a new deal in principle with City to extend his current contract to 2030.
His existing deal was set to expire next summer, with numerous sides across the continent waiting in the wings in case he failed to agree a new deal.
Foden’s poor recent form raised doubts around his future at City, but as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, they still see him as a vital part of their long-term future and he has never planned to leave.
His new contract will serve as a boost to Man City’s transfer plans, as they already look set to sign replacements for the outgoing Bernardo Silva and John Stones.

Foden has registered just one goal contribution in his last 25 City appearances, and last scored against Crystal Palace in mid-December.
He could have ended up elsewhere without signing a new contract, but the club remain keen on keeping him and he will be 30-years-old by the time his new deal ends.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “If there was any indication that Phil Foden was not planning to sign a new contract at Man City, there would have been a number of clubs at home and abroad who would have been interested in the England international.
“It was always going to be the case that both parties were happy to continue their relationship together. Foden is a City boy through and through.
“Maybe he has had a bit of a dip in form this season, but City are still fully behind him and counting on him for their long-term future as well, that’s why they’re gonna give him this new contract until 2030 with an option of another year.
“He’s got a big role to play for City and they would have been loath to see one of their own academy products move on to another club, so they’ll be happy now that they’ve agreed this new contract in principle.”
Rodri could leave Man City as midfield overhaul planned
Silva has already announced that he is set to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer, and he could be followed out of the club by 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri.
The Spaniard has struggled with constant injury issues this season and is currently sidelined, with just 16 starts made in the Premier League so far.
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Rodri may also leave Man City this summer, with just one year left on his current contract as he nears 30.
He previously admitted that he would be unable to turn down a move to Real Madrid if the opportunity arose, and talks over a new deal are yet to begin.
