Christian Pulisic has the ability to play alongside the regular Liverpool front three amid rumours that the Reds are interested in him.
That’s according to former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Pulisic’s Chelsea future.
Pulisic, 22, only has 10 Premier League starts to his name this season after missing a lot of the early stages of the campaign with hamstring and muscle problems.
The Daily Mail claim that Liverpool have been ‘alerted’ by Thomas Tuchel’s latest snub of Pulisic as the player has only started once under his new boss.
Phillips claims Pulisic could have a similar impact at Liverpool to Diogo Jota, who is having a fine season at his new club after leaving Wolves in the summer.
“When I hear these comments about him leaving Chelsea, I’m just surprised,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“I think he’s a fantastic player but if he is to go, he’s the type of player that has the ability to sit just behind that Liverpool front three.
“He’ll only get better and better as he gets older. It’s like when Jota went to Liverpool, what a signing he’s been.
“So Pulisic could definitely be one of those players if he went to Liverpool.
“If I was a Liverpool supporter I’d like to see him playing in my side.”
Pulisic, who was signed for £58million in 2019, has picked up two goals and two assists in 28 total outings for Chelsea this season after finishing last year’s campaign in red hot form.
He was handed a first start under Tuchel last time out against Leeds United though he was hooked with 20 minutes to play after failing to test Illan Meslier.
