Phillips backs Liverpool to 'surprise a lot of people' with 'big signing'
Kevin Phillips has backed Liverpool to surprise a lot of people with a “big signing” this summer.
The Sunderland icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, predicted the Reds will part ways with Divock Origi in the coming months.
On 17th March, Football Insider revealed that the Belgium international could be made available for as little as £12million this summer.
Origi, 26, only started two Premier League games last season and only scored one goal in his 17 outings in all competitions.
Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino also struggled last season compared to their own high standards.
However, Origi was unable to provide another quality attacking option for Jurgen Klopp.

Phillips claims it won’t be a “major blow” if Origi leaves but insists Liverpool will replace him.
“I think they could get by without a new striker,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“It’s not ideal. They got by last season, Origi never really played, did he?
“It’s not going to be a major blow if he leaves. From the player’s point of view, he needs to leave now.
“He can go and play somewhere else in England or abroad. Someone could then nick a striker who we know has quality.
“He needs to find that hunger again. From Liverpool’s point of view, I think they will look to replace him.
“Whether they go big and get a big signing or go under the radar. They might surprise a lot of people.”
Origi is a Liverpool fan favourite after scoring some iconic goals in recent years.
His brace against Barcelona and goal in the subsequent Champions League final have etched his name into Liverpool folklore.
