Phillips baffled by Leeds transfer decision after BBC reveal
Kevin Phillips is baffled as to why Leeds United spent £25million on Dan James.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Sunderland and England striker claimed the money would have been better spent on bringing a striker into Elland Road.
The Whites confirmed the signing of James on a permanent deal from Manchester United on deadline day.
According to the BBC (August 31st), the winger will cost Leeds £25million.
Phillips is “very surprised” by the deal considering Marcelo Bielsa’s options up top.
“The signing of Dan James for £25million – is it too much? He asked Football Insider.

“Let’s hope he gets his career back up and running and excites us. He has shown flashes of brilliance but it is now about showing consistency. If he is firing on all cylinders he could turn out to be a very good signing.
“Personally, I would have rather have spent the £25million spent on another striker. There is no backup or competition for Patrick Bamford.
“You never are as prolific in the second season. He is probably going to miss some games through injury at some point and he will also be more of a target. Teams will mark him more closely.
“If he is out injured or out of form who is there to come in? I’m very surprised they’ve chose to sign Dan James over a striker because they have strength and cover out wide. I would be slightly concerned as a Leeds supporter.”
