Phillips claims Tuanzebe can become a Newcastle hero after source's transfer update

Kevin Phillips claims Axel Tuanzebe would be a top signing for Newcastle United.

The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 23-year-old’s experience at Manchester United could prove to be invaluable.

On 29th July, Football Insider revealed Newcastle have registered their interest in taking Tuanzebe on loan and the latest from a club source is that they are in pole position to seal a deal.

Aston Villa also made an enquiry for the centre-back, who can slot in at full-back, after letting Bjorn Engels go earlier in the window.

However, it is understood Tuanzebe will be offered a regular starting spot at St James’ Park.

Newcastle are in the market for a new centre-half after selling Florian Lejeune to La Lida side Alavez.

Phillips claims Tuanzebe can become an unsung hero for the Toon Army if he is given regular game time.

“He hasn’t got that much experience,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“But the experience he does have, he has from Manchester United, arguably the biggest club in the world.

“There’s the Steve Bruce connection as well, I think that could turn out to be a really decent signing.

“He needs to go somewhere and play regularly, that’s when you will see the best of him.

“If he goes to Newcastle you will see a player who can turn out to be a hero, an unsung hero.

“Someone who you don’t may millions for but does a really good job.”

Tuanzebe has made 37 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United.

He has also had two loan spells at Aston Villa, both while the club were playing in the Championship.
