Phillips digs at Aston Villa fans after 'disappointing' Grealish footage emerges
Kevin Phillips has slammed Aston Villa fans’ “disappointing” decision to boo Jack Grealish on his return with Manchester City.
The former Claret and Blue striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the 26-year-old’s frosty reception was “inevitable”.
As captured by Twitter user James (@ontherightside0), Grealish was greeted with audible boos and a chorus of ‘Villa ’til I die’ from the home supporters as he replaced Gabriel Jesus in the second half of Man City’s 2-1 away victory over Villa.
It was the midfielder’s first return to Villa Park since leaving his boyhood club during the summer window.
Phillips claimed the Claret and Blue faithful have “short memories” following the reception.
“Listen, it was inevitable,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“He went and signed a new deal last summer and said he wanted to stay at the club, but that’s football.
“It’s disappointing because he’s done well for them and earned them £100million from nothing after coming through the academy at the club.
“Supporters have short memories, but it is what it is. I’m sure it will calm down for future games.
“He’ll get a decent reception in future. When I first went back to Sunderland, there were bits and bobs and boos in the stands – so it happens.”
Grealish joined reigning champions Man City for a reported British record £100million fee in August.
The lifelong Aston Villa fan scored 32 goals in 213 games for the Midlands side after graduating from the club’s academy.
Grealish netted six league goals and registered 12 assists for Aston Villa last term.
The 26-year-old has earned 18 England caps since making his international debut in September of last year.
