Phillips Exclusive: West Ham tipped to bin £115K-a-week star in January

West Ham will look to sell Andriy Yarmolenko in January to free up room on the wage bill.

That is according to former Sunderland and Aston Villa striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs about the 31-year-old’s future at the London Stadium.

Yarmolenko has made eight appearances for David Moyes’s side this season and his three starts in the league cup yielded two goals and three assists.

The Ukraine international, who earns £115,000-a-week according to Spotrac, has 18 months left on his contract in east London.

Phillips claimed the club would be doing the right thing if they sold the winger next month.

“I definitely think it would be a smart move to sell Yarmolenko,” he told Football Insider.

“He has not played an awful lot of football and as one of the top earners at West Ham, if I am the owner, I would be looking to move him on.

“I am sure the owners will look at that because he is not playing regularly. It could even free up the money to sign a couple of players.

“I would definitely suggest that it could be the case in January but it will not be simple. I doubt the player would get those wages anywhere else, so would he want to move?

“It is a difficult situation but I think West Ham will try to offload him in January if they can.”
