Phillips hails 'brilliant' Liverpool move as Anfield source shares Henderson update
Kevin Phillips insists Jordan Henderson was never going to leave Liverpool after an update on his contract situation.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest out of Anfield.
A Liverpool source has told Football Insider the club are in advanced talks to secure Henderson to a mega-money new deal.
Jurgen Klopp wants the 31-year-old to put pen to paper before the transfer window closes next week.
His current contract expires in the summer of 2023 and there was some speculation linking him to a move away.
Phillips, who is friends with Henderson’s dad, insists reports linking the midfielder with a move away were wide of the mark.

“It’s just the media,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“You have no idea where all of that stuff is coming from, I always listen to the player.
“It always sounded like Henderson was desperate to stay at Liverpool and I think he might end his career there.
“It would be great if he could spend a couple of years at Sunderland at the end of his career but I’m not sure that will happen.
“It’s great that he’s signed the deal, he deserves it, he’s a top-class player and man.
“It’s great that all the rumours are put to bed. Those stories come from people putting two and two together.
“We see that all the time but it’s a brilliant move by Liverpool.”
Henderson, 31, missed Liverpool’s season opener but returned for the 2-0 win over Burnley last weekend.
He could anchor the Liverpool midfield against Chelsea on Saturday evening.
