Phillips issues Bamford comeback date claim after 'big' Leeds footage emerges
Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford appears to be “weeks away” from a return and may not return until just before Christmas.
That is the view of former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about footage of the 28-year-old training on Tuesday.
As captured by club media (November 23rd), Bamford trained at Thorp Arch with fellow long-term injury absentee Robin Koch as he nears a return to action.
Bamford has been sidelined since the 1-1 draw with Newcastle in mid-September.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have won just two of eight Premier League games in the striker’s absence.
When asked by Football Insider for an approximate return date based on the footage, Phillips said:

“If he’s back out on the grass kicking a ball you’d think it’s a matter of weeks. But some injuries you can be back out on the grass even if you’re a while away.
“They treat injuries differently nowadays. You cannot read too much into what stage he will be at but it’s definitely encouraging news.
“Let’s hope it’s a case of weeks and that we see him before Christmas.
“At the end of the day, it’s great news from Leeds’ point of view because they need something to change. Bamford coming back would be a big lift.
“Let’s be brutally honest, it’s not looking great for them at the minute. They are not where they want to be in the league.
“It is a boost if Bamford is not a million miles away.”
