Phillips: 'Kane-like' Ings could be 'bargain' Tottenham signing after update

Danny Ings would be an excellent replacement if Tottenham lose Harry Kane this summer, according to Kevin Phillips.

The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims Spurs would not have to break the bank to secure Ings’ services.

The Sunday Mirror (16/5; page 73) claim the London club are interested in signing Danny Ings from Southampton as a replacement this summer.

In April, this site first broke the news that Kane wants to leave Spurs this summer.

Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have registered their interest signing the England skipper,

Ings, 28, scored 12 goals in 29 Premier League outings during the recently concluded season.

When asked if Ings would be a good signing for Spurs, Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, “Yeah, he could be.

“That’s not going to break the bank either, it’s not going to be a ridiculous transfer fee.

“He hasn’t scored a lot of goals but if he goes to Tottenham he’ll get more opportunities.

“Of course, that’s if Kane is the only one who leaves. I like him, he plays on the shoulder and is a Harry Kane type player.

“Harry has linked up a lot more this season but I can see that working. I think Ings would be excited about it.

“That could be a really good goer for Tottenham and a bit of a bargain.”

Kane finished the Premier League season with more goals and assists than any other player.

He scored what may prove to be his final Tottenham goal during Sunday’s 4-2 win over Leicester.
